JOPLIN, Mo. - The Jets traveled to Joplin to face Missouri Southern in a midweek MIAA matchup. MSSU took the contest, 12-4.
How it Happened:
-MSSU was first to score, pushing one run across the plate in the bottom of the first for the early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Kaynan Kaki singled to start off the Jets offense. He would later steal second. Carter Andreozzi would later single that scored Kaku, tying the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the second, MSSU connected with a solo home run to take the 2-1 lead. Another solo home run by the Lions in the third would extend their lead to 3-1.
MSSU would tack on two more runs in the fifth to create a 5-1 lead over the Jets. A walk earned by Collin Morris led the sixth inning off. Anthony Cannavino followed this with a double that put runners second and third. Kaku connected with a single to push around Morris to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Lions were able to push across one run in the bottom half of the inning off one hit to take the 6-2 lead.
-To start off the seventh inning, Nicolas Ely connected with a double. Andreozzi followed this with a single that scored Ely. Andreozzi would steal second to put himself in scoring position. A double from Thomas Munn scored Andreozzi to cut the score to 6-4, still in favor of MSSU. Five runs scored in the bottom of the seventh gave the Lions an 11-4 lead. MSSU would finish off the game with the last score coming in the 8th. The Lions took the game, 12-4.
Player Notes:
-Andreozzi led the offense with two RBIs.
-Kaku and Munn credited with one RBI apiece.
-Kaku went 3-4 from the plate, leading the Jets in hits.
Newman is back in action on Friday at McCarthy Field where they will kickoff the weekend series against Rogers State.
