WICHITA- The Jets kicked off the weekend series versus No. 21 Rogers State on Friday afternoon. The Jets fell in eight innings, 17-7.
How it Happened:
- Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning. The ranked Hillcats were first to the scoreboard in the second inning. An RBI single would give the Hillcats the first run of the game. This was later followed by a grand slam that would give the Hillcats a 5-0 lead. The Jets answered in the bottom half of the inning. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for NU. With the bases loaded,
Zac Becker connected with a single to right field scoring two runs. This cut the deficit to 5-2, Hillcats. The third was scoreless for both teams.
- The Hillcats put together another big inning in the top of the fourth. RSU scored six runs off five hits. This stretched the Hillcats lead to 11-2. Newman would be unable to respond in the bottom half of the fifth. In the top of the fifth, the Hillcats added two runs to take a 13-2 lead. The Jets scored one run in the fifth, with an RBI single by
Nicolas Ely scoring
Justin Birch who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. This cut the deficit to 13-3. The next score would come from the Jets in the bottom of the sixth.
Louis Coca would be credited with the RBI in the inning. Through six innings, Newman trailed 13-4.
- An RBI from
Kaynan Kaku scored the first run of the seventh inning. An error with runners on would allow two Jets to score two more, taking the contest to 13-7 to end the seventh. In the top of the eighth, four runs on three hits allowed the Hillcats to extend their lead back out to ten runs at 17-7. The Jets were unable to cut into the deficit in the eighth inning, ending the game after eight. The Jets fell 17-7.

- Becker led the Jets with two RBIs, going 3-3 from the plate.
- Coca, Ely, and Kaku all added one RBI apiece.
The Jets are back at McCarthy Field tomorrow at 2 PM for game two against No. 21 Rogers State.
