Hillcats secure series over Jets in game two

WICHITA- The Jets hosted RSU for game two on Saturday afternoon. The ranked Hillcats took the series with a 19-8 win over NU. 

How it Happened:
- The first runs of the contest would come in the top of the third inning for the Hillcats. Seven runs would score off of six hits and one error by the Jets defense. This gave RSU the 7-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the third. Newman was unable to respond in the bottom half of the inning. 
- The Hillcats added one more run in the top of the fourth to extend their lead out to 8-0. The Jets posted their first runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kaynan Kaku was the Jets first base runner. Thomas Munn batted himself and Kaku around with a two run home run. This cut the deficit to 8-2, Hillcats. The Jets defense held the Hillcats scoreless in the top of the fifth. Newman was able to cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. Louis Coca led off the inning with a single. Justin Birch followed this with a single to put runners at first and second. Nicolas Ely then drew a walk to load the bases. A double by Carter Andreozzi scored all three of the Jets runners, taking the score to 8-5. Collin Morris followed this with a double of his own to score Andreozzi and the Jets sixth run. Kaku would also add a double in the inning, pushing Morris to third. Munn would record an RBI to push the Jets seventh run across. At the end of five, the Jets trailed by just one run at 8-7. A solo home run and a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning pushed the Hillcats lead out to 13-7. The Hillcats would tack on four more runs before the end of the inning. After six, RSU held the 17–7 lead. The next runs came from RSU in the top of the seventh where they tacked on two runs to extend the lead to 19-7. The Jets added one run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 19-8, but were unable to push across anymore runs. The Jets fell in seven innings, 19-8. 

Player Notes:
- Andreozzi and Munn both recorded three RBIs apiece. 
- Munn added a two run home run, his first career home run. 
- Kaku and Peyton Mitchell added one RBI apiece. 

The Jets are back at McCarthy Field tomorrow at 12 PM for the series finale against No. 21 Rogers State.
