Last Time Out:
The Jets played a midweek game on Tuesday, February 24th against Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Gorillas would take the contest, 20-2. Newman traveled to Warrensburg, Missouri to face Central Missouri in a weekend series. UCM would take the series. 

Newman Baseball faced Pittsburg State on February 24th. The Gorillas struck early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. In the third, a solo home run followed by a sacrifice fly pushed Pitt State's advantage to 5-0. The Jets got on the board in the top of the fourth when Anthony Cannavino came around to score on a Zac Becker single. PSU then blasted two more home runs to stretch the margin to 9-1. Pitt State broke the game open in the sixth, scoring 11 runs on seven hits to make it 20-1. To finish the day, Kayden Dawson tallied a home run in the top of the seventh. 

The Jets and the Mules opened up their series on Friday, February 27th. The Jets and Mules were scoreless after the first, but Central Missouri struck first with a run in the second and added five more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. The Jets answered in the fourth with a three-run homer from Peyton Mitchell, cutting the deficit to 5-3, but the Mules responded to make it 8-3. Newman chipped away with runs in the fifth and sixth to close the gap to 8-6. After UCM extended its lead to 12-6 in the sixth, the Jets rallied again, scoring twice in the seventh and three times in the eighth to pull within one at 12-11. However, the Mules pulled away with four runs in the eighth and held the Jets scoreless in the ninth to secure a 16-11 win in the series opener.

In game two of the series the Mules jumped out early, scoring four runs in the first inning to grab a 4-0 advantage. Behind Alex Gillig, the Jets kept Central Missouri off the scoreboard in the second and third. UCM added two more runs in the fourth and another in the sixth, while the Jets continued to struggle at the plate. The Mules then put the game away with four runs in the seventh, securing an 11-0 victory in game one of the doubleheader.

Game two of the doubleheader and last of the series opened with a scoreless first inning before the Mules broke through with a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Central Missouri stayed hot at the plate, adding five runs in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to build a 9-0 advantage while holding the Jets scoreless. UCM pushed across one final run in the seventh to seal a 10-0 victory. The Mules would take the game 10-0 and the series 3-0. 

Scouting the Jets:
Nicolas Ely leads the Jets with a .322 batting average, while scoring eleven runs and six RBIs for the Jets. Kaynan Kaku has averaged a .316 batting average with 18 hits and leads the team with ten RBIs. Justin Birch leads the team in extra base hits with two home runs and five doubles. On the mound, Frank Fabian leads the Jets with 23.2 innings pitched, tallying a 1-2 record. Alex Gillig has pitched 22.2 innings for the Jets, recording 15 strikeouts. Ryan Pacha records eleven strikeouts through 17.1 innings pitched. 

Behind Enemy Lines:
Xavier Sanchez leads the RiverHawks with a batting average of .448 with thirteen hits and ten runs. Klete Finley has tallied an impressive 21 hits and 21 runs with a batting average of .420. Finley leads the team with extra base hits recording six doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Jackson Dillingham leads the team with extra base hits with four home runs. Thomas Brownfield has pitched 20.0 innings for the RiverHawks recording 16 strikeouts. Bryce Parlin has pitched 17.1 innings recording 19 strikeouts. 

Dagen Brewer leads the Gorillas with a batting average of .567 while also leading the team with eight home runs, ten doubles, 34 hits, and 41 RBIs. Eric Bacon has a batting average of .493 with 34 hits and has tallied 36 runs and 29 RBIs. Isaac Webb has recorded seven doubles, three triples, and three home runs. On the mound for Pittsburg State Zach Voss and Preston Giltner have both pitched 22.0 innings. Voss has a record of 5-0 with 22 strikeouts. Giltner has a record of 3-0 with 18 strikeouts. 

The Series:
-The Jets have a record of 5-15 against the RiverHawks. Newman's last win was in April of 2023. 

-The Jets and the Gorillas have met 22 times with the Jets recording seven wins. Newman and Pittsburg State have previously met this year with the Gorillas taking the game.

Newman baseball will return home for a series against Arkansas-Fort Smith starting on Friday, March 13th.
