Jets fly past NSU in series finale

Kocher hits two home runs in win over Riverhawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla.- The Jets finished off the series against NSU on Monday afternoon. The Jets defeated NSU, 12-4. 

How it Happened: 
- Nicolas Ely led off the first inning with a single. An error on the Riverhawks defense would later allow Kaynan Kaku to reach and push Ely to second. Peyton Mitchell would be the batter to push Ely across the plate with a single, giving Newman the early 1-0 lead. NSU took the lead from the Jets in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs off two hits and two errors on Newman. NSU would hold their lead through the second inning. In the third inning, a home run by Ely led off the inning which cut the deficit to 3-2. The Jets held the Riverhawks off the board in the bottom half of the third, making the score 3-2 Riverhawks. 
- The Jets were able to regain the lead in the fourth inning. Mitchell led off with a hit by pitch. Brett Kocher would then bat around Mitchell and himself with a two run home run. This gave the Jets the 4-3 lead. The bats continued to roll, with Riley Kujawa singling. Coca followed this with a hit by pitch. Later in the inning, Louis Coca batted in Kujawa with a sacrifice fly. Collin Morris would then bat around the Jets sixth run. After the top of the fourth, the Jets held the 6-3 lead. Newman would extend their lead to 8-3 after the top of the fifth inning with another two run home run by Kocher. 
- Three runs off one hit in the top of the sixth allowed Newman to stretch their lead to 11-3. The next score would come from the Jets in the seventh, scoring one run to push to a 12-3 lead. NSU would score one run in the bottom of the seventh, taking the score to 12-4. The Jets defense would hold off NSU for the remainder of the game. Newman took the matchup, 12-4. 

Player Notes: 
- Kocher hit two home runs on the day, tallying four RBIs. 
- Mitchell also accounted for four RBIs for the Jets offense. 
- Ely added two RBIs, going 2-3 from the plate. 
- Frank Fabian was credited with the win on the mound, allowing just one run through six innings pitched. 

The Jets return home on Wednesday to face a ranked Gorillas squad for their second match up of the season.
