Jets fall to MSSU in midweek match up

JOPLIN, Mo. — Newman University fell to Missouri Southern State University with a final score of 16-2 on Tuesday at Warren Turner Field.

How it Happened: 
- The Jets tallied six hits, including a home run, in the game.
- Nicolas Ely ignited the action for the Jets with a triple to left field and scored on Carter Andreozzi's sacrifice bunt, providing an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Missouri Southern State was held scoreless in its half of the inning. Score: 1-0, Jets.
- In the second inning, MSSU surged ahead, hitting a grand slam, bringing home four runs and pushing it to a 4-1 lead over the Jets. Newman was unable to score in its half. Score: 4-1, MSSU.
- Missouri Southern extended its lead in the third inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run home run. The Jets threatened with Ely's double and Andreozzi's single but failed to score. Score: 9-1, MSSU.
- In the fifth inning, Kaynan Kaku hit a solo home run for Newman, adding a run to the scoreboard, but MSSU countered with two runs of its own, maintaining its commanding lead. Score: 13-2, MSSU.
- The Lions added three more runs in the sixth inning, including a two-run home run. Newman did not score in the second half of the inning. Score: 16-2, MSSU.
- The seventh inning saw no additional scoring from either team, concluding the game with a final score of 16-2 in favor of Missouri Southern State.
