EMPORIA, Ks.- Newman baseball traveled to Emporia, Kansas to begin a weekend series against Emporia State. The Hornets would take game one through seven innings, 19-4.
How it Happened:
-The Hornets set the tone early, opening with three home runs in the first. Emporia State would take a 6-0 lead at the end of the first.
Kaynan Kaku gave the Jets their first hit with a single to left field in the first inning. Emporia State added two more runs in the third on a solo home run from and a sacrifice fly, extending the advantage to 8-0. The Hornets then added nine runs in the fourth to push the lead to 17-0. They added a solo home run in the fifth to make it 18-0.
-Newman got on the board in the sixth with a pair of runs, as
Braden McNeill recorded a sacrifice fly and
Carter Andreozzi added an RBI single, scoring
Zac Becker.
-The Jets would begin to rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Colton Holland added a single to left, then later stole second.
Anthony Cannavino would fly out to center field, allowing Holland to advance to third.
Riley Kujawa singled to center field, Holland scored making it 19-3. An error from the Hornets would allow Becker on base and score Kujawa to add another for the Jets. The Hornets would take game one of the series through seven innings, 19-4.
