Last Time Out 
Newman Baseball traveled to Bolivar, Missouri for a weekend series against Southwest Baptist University. Newman took game one through 8 innings, 13-3. The Bearcats would go on and take the series (12-18, 4-5). 

In game one, Newman took a 13-3 win over SBU behind a powerful offensive performance. Riley Kujawa sparked the scoring with an RBI double in the second, followed by Justin Birch's two-run homer to make it 3-0. The Jets pulled away in the fourth with four runs, highlighted by Kaynan Kaku's two-RBI single, then added four more in the fifth to extend the lead to 11-1. Nicolas Ely led the charge with multiple RBIs. Newman added two more in the seventh, while SBU scored late on a two-run homer, but the Jets remained firmly in control to secure the 13-3 victory through eight innings. 

To start game two, SBU jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first and adding four more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Newman answered in the third as Nicolas Ely doubled and later scored on Collin Morris' RBI single. Carter Andreozzi added another run on a fielder's choice, cutting the deficit to 6-2. SBU picked up a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 7-2. The Jets rallied in the fifth with six runs, highlighted by Anthony Cannavino's three-run homer, to take an 8-7 lead. SBU quickly responded with two runs to regain the lead, but Newman battled back in the seventh as Ely tripled and scored, followed by another RBI from Morris to go up 10-9. The Bearcats broke the game open in the eighth with a nine-run inning, pulling ahead 18-11. Newman added one more in the ninth, but SBU secured the 18-12 win.

Southwest Baptist struck first in the final game, scoring two runs in the second and adding another in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Newman answered in the fourth, capitalizing on defensive miscues. Justin Birch reached on an error and later scored, while Brett Kocher and Kayden Dawson also came home on another error. Zac Becker added a groundout RBI to bring in Colton Holland, tying the game at 4-4. SBU responded with two unearned runs to regain a 5-4 edge by the end of the inning. Both teams were scoreless over the final three innings, and Newman couldn't capitalize late, as Southwest Baptist held on for the 5-4 win.

Coming up, Newman Baseball will host Northwest at Equity Bank Park on Friday, April 24th -26th and Pittsburg State at West Side Athletic Field on Tuesday, April 28th

Scouting the Jets 
Kaynan Kaku leads the Jets with a batting average of .377 with 55 hits. Nicolas Ely leads the team in extra base hits with 19 including five home runs. Ely records a batting average of .347. Morris has recorded five doubles and 31 hits. Birch leads the team in home runs with six and adds 18 RBIs on the season. On the mound for the Jets, Frank Fabian holds a record of 2-4. Fabian has pitched 46.0 innings and recorded 20 strikeouts. 

Behind Enemy Lines
Frank Gall leads Northwest Missouri with a batting average of .375. Gall has recorded 69 runs and 68 runs. Jeremiah Cabuyaban follows with a batting average of .369 as well as leading the team in home runs with 13. Jordi Ventura adds to the Bearcats offense with 61 hits and 16 doubles on the season. Ben Haug leads the team in innings pitched with 55.2 as well as strikeouts with 56. Haug holds a record of 5-1. Logan Brasel has pitched 46.0 innings with 38 strikeouts for the Bearcats. 

The Gorillas are currently ranked Number 9 and on a winning streak of six. Dagen Brewer leads the Gorillas with an impressive batting average of .459 with 67 hits and 21 home runs. Brewer leads the team in RBIs with 87. Eric Bacon holds a batting average of .409 and leads the team in hits with 74. Grant Nottlemann has recorded 54 hits and 41 runs. On the mound for the Gorillas, Bradyn McClure has pitched 42.1 innings, recording 45 strikeouts. Zach Voss leads the team in innings pitched with 51.1. Voss holds a record of 8-2 on the season for Pittsburg State.
