Jets fall short on senior day against NW Missouri

WICHITA, Kan. - Newman fell to Northwest Missouri State with a final score of 17–11 at Equity Bank Park on Sunday. Despite the loss, Newman recorded 18 hits, including two home runs, but could not overcome NW Missouri's offensive surge.

Newman started strong in the first inning, posting four runs. Kaynan Kaku scored on an error, followed by Justin Birch and Collin Morris crossing home on Peyton Mitchell's single. Anthony Cannavino then doubled, driving in two more. The Jets led 4–1 after the first inning.

In the fifth inning, the Jets added one run when Kaku scored on Collin Morris' single. However, the Bearcats responded with a five-run inning, pulling ahead. The score stood at 9–5 in favor of NW after five innings.

The Jets managed to score again in the sixth inning. Trey Runge doubled and scored on Nicolas Ely's single, cutting the deficit. Nevertheless, NW maintained its lead at 12–6 by the end of the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, Newman narrowed the gap with three runs. Birch hit a solo home run, followed by a two-run homer from Cannavino, bringing the score to 16–9. Newman attempted a late rally in the ninth inning. Ely scored on Kaku's double, and Lawrence Lubchuk Jr. crossed home on Birch's groundout, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. The game concluded with NW Missouri securing a 17–11 victory over the Jets.
