HAYS, Kan.- Newman Baseball traveled to Hays, Kansas to play the Tigers in a weekend series. The Jets took game one, 10-4.
How it Happened:
-Newman tallied four home runs and collected 14 hits in the win, while limiting Fort Hays State to five hits and four runs.
-In the second inning, the Jets initiated scoring with
Collin Morris doubling to left-center, setting the stage for
Thomas Munn's RBI double, which brought Morris home. Munn advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on
Riley Kujawa's infield single, giving the Jets a 2-1 lead through two innings.
-The third inning saw the Jets extend their lead, capitalizing on an opponent error.
Anthony Cannavino reached on a throwing error, followed by a single from
Kaynan Kaku. After
Justin Birch was hit by a pitch,
Collin Morris grounded into a double play, allowing Cannavino to score.
Peyton Mitchell then hit a two-run homer, increasing the lead to 5-2.
-The Jets continued to dominate in the fourth inning. Munn doubled again and, after advancing to third, scored alongside
Nicolas Ely on a three-run homer by Kaku, pushing the lead to 8-2.
-In the fifth inning, Mitchell added another run with his second home run of the game, a solo shot to right field, making it 9-2.
-Mitchell hit his third home run of the game in the seventh inning, further extending Newman's lead to 10-3. Fort Hays State responded in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run, but the deficit remained significant. Fort Hays State managed to score one more run in the ninth inning, but Newman would win with a final score of 10-4.
