ADA, Okla.- Newman Baseball traveled to Oklahoma to face non-conference opponent, East Central. The Jets fell just short, 12-11.
How it Happened:

Nicolas Ely led the game off drawing a walk.
Carter Andreozzi would then single to left to advance Ely to third. A sacrifice fly from
Kaynan Kaku would score Ely for the first run of the game. East Central would answer in the bottom half of the inning. Three hits scored three runs for the Tigers, allowing them to take the 3-1 lead over the Jets. The Newman offense would rally in the top of the second. A hit by pitch started the inning, followed by a wild pitch that allowed
Peyton Mitchell to reach second. An RBI from
Riley Kujawa scored Mitchell to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Kayden Dawson would later score, after reaching base from a double to right. An error from the Tigers defense allowed Dawson to cross the plate. This tied the score at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the second. East Central added three runs off of three hits in the second, taking back the lead at 6-3.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the third and fourth inning, keeping the deficit at just three runs for the Jets. Newman was finally able to break the tie in the fifth inning. A walk and a wild pitch put Ely on second. Andreozzi followed this with a walk, putting runners on first and second. Another walk drawn by the Jets loaded the bases.
Anthony Cannavino reached on a fielder's choice and would score Ely to cut into the deficit, 6-4. A balk would then allow Andreozzi to score from third and move Cannavino to second. A double from Mitchell would then tie up the game at 6-6. A single from
Justin Birch pushed Mitchell across the plate, allowing the Jets to regain the lead at 7-6. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the fifth, tying up the game at 7-7. ECU would then take the 9-7 inning later in the inning. Through five played, the Tigers led 9-7.
- The Jets continued to battle. Two walks started off the sixth inning for Newman. An RBI from Andreozzi would bat across the Jets eighth run cutting the deficit to just one, 9-8. ECU pieced together two hits and an error from the Jets defense that allowed two runs to score in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead out to 11-8. A solo homerun from Mitchell in the seventh brought the Jets within two, 11-9. In the top of the eighth,
Kayden Dawson reached third base after he was hit by pitch, he would then later advance to second and third on two wild pitches.
Collin Morris then came up to the plate to pinch hit. Morris would connect with a single to right that scored the Jets tenth run. This cut the deficit to just one run. Later in the inning, a walk drawn by Mitchell with the bases loaded would tie up the game at 11-11. In the bottom of the ninth with two outs, the Tigers were able to push the winning run across the plate. The Jets fell short, 12-11.
