LIBERTY, Mo.- The Jets secured a 2-0 victory over William Jewell College on Thursday night. The Jets recorded 11 shots on goal, while keeping the Cardinals to just one.
How it Happened:
NU had several scoring opportunities in the first half with
Yohsuke Ono,
Skylur Staley,
Daiki Okada, and
Oscar Duffy taking shots, but all were either saved by the Cardinals goalkeeper or just missed the target.
Guilherme Borges had a huge save for the Jets in the 21st minute of the opening half. The first half saw a red card for Maxwell Evanoff of WJC, reducing its squad to ten men. Despite these developments, the score remained 0-0 at the end of the first period.
The Jets broke the stalemate against the Cardinals in the second half with a goal from
Higor Werneck in the 85th minute, taking the lead 1-0. Just over a minute later,
Oscar Duffy extended the Jets lead to 2-0 with a goal, assisted by
Jonathan Garcia. The Cardinals goalkeeper, Alon Milwidsky, was active throughout the period, making multiple saves, including those from
Daiki Okada and
Tomas Melon. Despite several attempts by the Cardinals, none resulted in a goal, securing a 2-0 victory for the Jets as the period closed.
