KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Newman fell to Rockhurst in a close 2–1 match on Sunday. The Jets managed to score in the second half, but the Hawks held on to secure the victory.
How it Happened:
The period started with both NU and Rockhurst establishing their goalkeepers. NU had the first shot attempt by
Io Shono at 8:53, but it did not find the back of the net. RU countered with a shot at 11:52, which was saved by
Guilherme Borges. The game remained scoreless until the 42nd minute when Rockhurst's Nicolas Schrag notched a goal, putting his team up 1–0. Despite a late corner kick and a shot attempt by
Skylur Staley, the Jets'efforts were thwarted by the Hawks goalie, ending the first period with the Hawks leading, 1-0.
The second period began with Rockhurst taking several early shots. Newman found a breakthrough when
Jonathan Garcia tallied a goal in the 76th minute, assisted by
Yohsuke Ono, leveling the score at 1–1. However, the Hawks regained the lead when Troy Lor netted a goal in the 82nd minute. Despite a penalty kick opportunity by
Higor Werneck and multiple fouls, the Jets could not equalize, and the period concluded with a 2–1 win for Rockhurst.
