PITTSBURG, Kan. - Newman lost to Pittsburg State 3-0 on Friday. The Jets were held to two shots and no shots on goal, while their goalkeepers combined for 12 saves, exceeding their season average of 7.0.
How it happened:
NU absorbed an early Pitt State push, with
Emerson Wedel saving Danae Hobson's shot at 1:02. Pittsburg State broke through at 18:42 when Livi Jones scored off an assist from Sarah Peyton Webb for a 1-0 lead. They kept the pressure on with Wedel saving shots from Hobson and Leah Pugliese. The Jets earned a corner kick at 30:55, but the Gorillas added consecutive corners in the 35th minute and Makenna Herrick scored at 35:18 off assists from Shayla Hunt and Mia Hunt to make it 2-0. Pitt State took that advantage into halftime.
Keilann Heath gave NU an early second-half look with a shot at 47:50, and
Emma Lintecum kept the Gorillas off the board initially with a save on Zoe Ryan at 53:57. After
Emma Kolbe recorded a Jets shot at 58:00, Pitt State added pressure with a corner kick goal from Leah Pugliese at 59:19 to make it 3-0. Lintecum continued to handle the late pressure, saving multiple shots to close out the match as the score stayed 3-0 through the end of regulation.
