WICHITA, Kan. — Newman falls to Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 on Wednesday. The Jets finished with seven shots, one on goal, while facing 17 shots and making seven saves.
How it happened
Allison Hernandez had the Jets' first recorded chance at 13:10, sending a shot over the frame, before the Bulldogs pressed with a Kinsey Geasland attempt, a corner kick and a Sarahi Delgadillo shot saved by
Emma Lintecum. Krysta Hook missed right at 23:08, and after Hernandez put another shot over at 31:45, SWOSU added a corner and three shots between 33:03 and 35:57, with Lintecum saving efforts by Geasland and Hook. Geasland broke through at 36:15 to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead, and after Madelyn Kitchen shot high at 40:57, NU went to halftime trailing 1-0.
After
Emerson Wedel saved Kayla Abbott's shot at 45:22, Sarahi Delgadillo scored at 50:41 to put SWOSU ahead 2-0. The Jets answered at 55:13, when
Aleksah Moreno scored off assists from
Victoria Sandoval and
Emma Kolbe to make it 2-1, and
Grace Long sent a shot high at 58:16. A Kinsey Geasland shot at 71:16 started a back-and-forth stretch in which NU earned corners at 74:32 and 75:12,
Peyton Childers missed high at 75:49, Wedel saved Geasland at 76:22, and NU added another corner at 78:40. The Bulldogs followed with a corner and two more Geasland shots, including a Wedel save at 81:13, before Brekyn Cope scored at 81:15 to make it 3-1; the Jets put together late shots from Hernandez and
Izzy Sandoval and a corner at 87:38, but SWOSU closed out the 3-1 result.
