WICHITA, Kan. — Newman was outpaced by Missouri Western 2-1 on Sunday at Wilkins Field. The Jets were outshot 30-8 but recorded 12 saves, including seven in the second half.
How it happened:
Emma Lintecum handled the Griffons' early pressure for the Jets, saving attempts by Jaida Douch, Marielle Wright, Sarah Wilson and Sydney Puetz as the visitors generated shots and corner kicks through the 16:54 mark. Newman began to create chances through
Iveta Stefancinova and
Victoria Sandoval, while MWSU's Alexandra Milano put a shot off the top woodwork at 22:42. Less than a minute later,
Allison Hernandez scored at 23:40 off
Lexi Bauer's assist to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. Missouri Western's three remaining shots were off target as Newman took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
At the start of the second half, Lintecum stopped Alexandra Milano's shot at 46:35, but Missouri Western broke through twice early in the second half as Kendall Knisley scored at 48:39 to make it 1-1. The Griffons then followed it up with a controversial Milano goal at 49:26 for a 2-1 lead. Newman generated attempts from

Mya Campbell and
Victoria Sandoval during the middle of the half, which also included six fouls from 62:31 to 71:29. The Griffons cornered the Jets with late pressure, recording 10 attacking actions from 73:16 to 83:10, including four saves by Lintecum. Newman earned an 85:08 corner and
Emilia Alvarez put a shot on frame at 89:15 that Morgan Byrd saved as Missouri Western finished off a 2-1 win.
