WICHITA -
Angie Bennett's 14 kills weren't quite enough to allow Newman to come out on the high end of a see-saw volleyball match, falling 3-2 (23-25, 25-14, 25-27, 25-22, 11-15) to St. Mary's Thursday evening on Dig Pink Night inside Fugate Gymnasium.
Neither team was able to get into a rhythm hitting the ball in the match, as both squads finished with attack percentages hovering just above the .100 mark. St. Mary's (5-19, 4-6) hit .109, while Newman (9-18, 4-5) hit .101. Newman posted its best hiting percentage for a set in the second frame when they hit .231. The Jets couldn't manage to eclipse the .125 mark for the rest of the match. Most of the major statistical categories were nearly even in the five set marathon match. Both teams finished with 53 kills. The Rattlers held a 51-49 edge in assists, while Newman finished with a 73-65 advantage in digs, and a 14-10 margin in blocks.
