WICHITA - The Newman men's soccer team dropped its ninth match of the season in a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at Wilkins Field.
Newman (3-9) kept the 2nd-ranked Mustangs off the board for the entire first period, and half of the final frame, but Midwestern State (12-0) finally struck in the 64th minute when a Dean Lovegrove corner kick was headed around and eventually batted into the goal by Newman keeper
Robin Allard to give MSU a 1-0 lead.
MSU added two insurance goals in the late stages of the game. Dean Lovegrove netted a free kick from 18 yards out at the 88:20 mark, and VcMor Eligwe sent a Byrce Taylor assist to the back of the net to give the Mustangs the 3-0 lead they went on to win by.
The Mustangs out-shot the Jets 25-2, but
Robin Allard finished the match with nine saves.
With the loss, Newman drops to 3-9 on the season. The Jets return to action Oct. 24, as they travel to Kirksville, Mo., to face Truman State in a noon match.
