Jets Shut Out At St. Edward's, 1-0

AUSTIN, Texas - The Newman men's soccer team dropped its fourth-straight match in a 1-0 decision to St. Edward's Friday afternoon at the SEU Soccer Field in Austin, Texas. Newman was held without a shot-on-goal in the contest.

St. Edward's (6-4, 4-1 Heartland) controlled nearly every statistical category in Friday afternoon's contest. The Hilltoppers out-shot the Jets 21-5, and took eight shots-on-goal, while Newman (2-7, 1-3 Heartland) was unable to put a shot on goal in its 90 minutes of time on the field.

The Hilltoppers scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute, when an SEU corner kick took found Joeski Williams, who re-directed the ball to Tyler Miles, setting up Gavin Bruce for his first goal of the season. St. Edward's' only goal of the match proved to be the game winner.

Five different players combined for Newman's five shots in the game.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 2-7 on the season, and 1-3 in Heartland Conference play. Newman will return to action Sunday, traveling to San Antonio to take on former Heartland Conference rival, and 11th-ranked Incarnate Word in a 1 p.m. contest at UIW's Benson Stadium.
