Men's Soccer Ends Season with 3-1 Loss

WICHITAJordan Saybounkham netted his fourth goal of the season, but the Newman University men's soccer team ended its season with a 3-1 loss to St. Mary's Sunday afternoon at Wilkins Field.

St. Mary's (4-13, 2-6 Heartland) scored two first half goals to take an early 2-0 lead. Daniel Sanguineti headed in a pass from Adam Muro at the 13:04 mark, and then added a free-kick goal by Sean Strater with 24 minutes left in the half.

At the 63rd minute, Newman's (3-14, 2-6 Heartland) Jordan Saybounkham took advantage of St. Mary's mistake, using a penalty kick to score Newman's only goal, which cut the Rattlers' lead to 2-1.

With 18 minutes left in the match, St. Mary's tacked on another goal by Adam Muro, to give the Rattlers a 3-1 advantage they went on to win by.

Both teams finished the game with 13 shots. Newman keeper Robin Allard saved two of the four shots that were put on goal by the Rattlers.

With the loss, the Jets finish their season 3-14 overall and 2-6 in Heartland Conference play.
