WICHITA - The Newman men's soccer team out-shot West Texas A&M, but the Buffaloes came away with the 2-0 win Friday night at Wilkins Field.
Newman (2-4) seemed to be the aggressors early in the match, forcing Buffalo keeper Sebastian Furness to turn away shots-on-goal from
Jordan Saybounkham and
Brandon Carlos to keep the early shutout alive.
West Texas A&M (3-3) struck first in the 13th minute, when Dominic Furness received a cross-pass from Alfred Chavez, to net the first of his two goals on the night.
The Jets went into halftime trailing 1-0 after firing six shots, five of which were on goal.
West Texas A&M added another goal in the 56th minute, when Dominic Furness headed his second goal of the night off a corner kick from Alfredo Chavez.
Furness finished the night with seven saves, while Newman keeper
Robin Allard finished with two.
With the loss, the Jets drop to 2-4 on the season. Newman returns to Wilkins Field on Sunday afternoon, to take on Eastern New Mexico in a noon match.
