Saybounkham Leads Jets Past Tabor, 4-0

Freshman Jordan Saybounkham scored two goals in Monday night's 4-0 win over Tabor
WICHITA - Newman used a flurry of second half goals to pick up its first win of the season, putting a 4-0 drubbing on Tabor College Monday night at Wilkins Field. Freshman Jordan Saybounkham netted two goals in the win.

Newman (1-1) was the aggressor throughout the contest, and needed just better than 11 minutes to put their first goal on the board. That came when Chris Vaughn put a header past Tabor (0-2) keeper Dalton Burkhard to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. The Jets took eight more shots before the end of the first half, but found themselves clinging to that same 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Jets turned up the pressure even more in the second half. Saybounkham found the goal for the first time in his Newman career just two minutes into the second half, sending a Will Peppard pass into the net from short range to push Newman's lead to 2-0. The freshman added another goal just four minutes later, this time using a pass from Renato Ramlochan from 15 yards out to push the Newman advantage to three, 3-0.

Ramlochan took things into his own hands less than 10 minutes later when Blake Jackson fed him a pass from 10 yards out. Ramlochan sent the pass past Burkhard and into the back of the net to give Newman the 4-0 advantage it went on to win by.

Freshman keeper Robin Allard picked up his first win in Monday night's contest. Allard had an easy night, saving the only shot that came his way, and played for just over 75 minutes before being replaced by senior James Esquivel.

As a team, Newman out-shot the Bluejays 14-7. The Jets were awarded 10 corner kicks, while Tabor was given just two.

With the win, the Jets improve to 1-1 on the season. They will return to action Friday, traveling to Kansas City to take on arch rival Rockhurst in a 7 p.m. contest.
