WICHITA -
Haley Dotson posted 14 kills but it wasn't enough to lead the Newman volleyball team past St. Edward's Thursday night in Fugate Gymnasium. The Heartland Conference-leading Hilltoppers left Wichita with a three-set sweep over the Jets.
-St. Edward's used a muti-faceted offensive attack with kills coming from five different players coupled with four Newman errors to jump out to a 13-7 first set lead. The Jets responded with three kills from
Jeana Farruggia and a pair by
Karol Marins to bring the match as close as 22-18 but the Hilltopper offense rallied, winning the set 25-19
-The second set was much of the same as St. Edward's opened up a 15-8 lead to start things off. Newman fought back using three kills from
Haley Dotson and kills from
Marins,
Farruggia and
Katelyn Schmidtberger to bring it as close as 24-21. The Hilltoppers closed the set with a set point block from Whitney Rhoden and Elissa Stanton to win 25-21.
-The third set wasn't much better as the Hilltoppers opened up with a 13-9 lead. The Jets clawed back bringing it as close as 15-13 but the SEU offense used a six point run to extend the lead to 21-13. Newman tried to respond narrowing the score to 24-18 but the Hilltoppers won the set and the match on a service error, 25-18.

Haley Dotson led the Newman offense with 14 kills while
Jeana Farruggia added nine.

Gabby Loxterman set 30 assists and added four kills on the night.
- Newman hit .128 as a team, recording 43 kills, 27 errors and six blocks on the night.
With the loss the Jets fall to 4-16 on the season and 1-6 in Heartland Conference play. They will return to action Saturday October 15th at 12 p.m. against conference foe Dallas Baptist.
