Newman Men's Soccer Hosts UTPB Friday

Newman (5-9-1, 2-2-1 Heartland) vs. Texas-Permian Basin (5-10, 2-3 Heartland)
Friday, Oct. 28 || Wilkins Field || Wichita, Kan. || Live Stats

WICHITA - The Newman men's soccer team concludes the home portion of its 2011 schedule Friday, when Texas-Permian Basin rolls into town. A win would give the Jets their first three-match winning streak since the 2008 season.

Newman enters Friday's match with a 5-9-1 record, and a 2-2-1 mark in Heartland Conference play. Six Jets have scored goals this season. Junior Amadou Doumbia leads the team with five goals.

Texas-Permian Basin comes into the match with a 5-10 record on the season and a 2-3 mark in conference action, and will look to break its three-game losing streak following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Texas A&M International on October 21. The Falcons are led by sophomore Tyler Gibson who has netted four goals on the year.

UTPB won the first meeting between the two schools, scoring on a bicycle kick late in the second overtime for a 2-1 win over Newman on Oct. 14 in Odessa.

Newman will wrap up the 2011 season with a pair of road games. The Jets will travel to Laredo, Texas to take on Texas A&M International on November 4, and will play their final game of the year against St. Mary's in San Antonio, Texas on November 6.
