Allard Posts First Shutout in 0-0 Draw

Box Score WICHITA - The Newman men's soccer team battled Heartland Conference foe St. Edwards to a 0-0 tie Friday evening at Wilkins Field. Each team narrowly missed on scoring opportunities resulting in the scoreless draw.

- Brandon Carlos led the Jets' offense with three shots, two forcing saves by SEU's keeper.

- St. Edward's' Tyler Miles and Barrett Barger led the Hilltoppers offense with two shots apiece.

- Newman's goalkeeper Robin Allard moved to 1-1-1 on the season and made three saves in the contest, including one on a breakaway scoring opportunity in the 50th minute by the Hilltoppers.

- SEU keeper John Kaschak also made three saves in the match, one coming against a late Newman opportunity at the end of the second half. 

- St. Edwards out-shot the Jets 11-9 in the contest.

- The Hilltoppers also held a 10-2 corner kick advantage in the game.

- 36 fouls were called in the match, 22 going against St. Edwards and 14 against Newman.

- Five yellow cards were issued during the game. Newman's Hugo Rayo, Chris Villatoro, and Nathan Modesto each received one while SEU's Matt McLaughlin and James Martin were given the remaining two.

With the tie the Jets move to 3-6-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in Heartland Conference play. They will return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 9 Incarnate Word at Wilkins Field.
