Dustdevils Snap Jets' Three-Game Streak, 3-0

Box Score LAREDO, Texas - A three-match winning streak came to an end Friday evening as No. 17 Texas A&M International handed the Newman men's soccer team a 3-0 loss on the Dustdevils' home pitch in Laredo, Texas. TAMIU out-shot the Jets 15-3 in the contest.

- Newman held the Dustdevils in check well into the second half, but Luis Salas put the hosts on the board when he beat Newman keeper Steven Hamersky from 15 yards out to give TAMIU a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute.

- Texas A&M International put the nail in the Newman coffin with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of the match. Diego Manzano-Cano converted a Salas pass into a goal from eight yards out in the 82nd minute, and Joao Bacchi knocked in a long pass from Salas from short range in the 90th minute to give the Dustdevils the 3-0 margin.

- Pharouk Hussein, Brandon Carlos and Nicos Esquivel were responsible for Newman's only shots in the match. The Jets were out-shot 15-3, and were held without a shot in the second half.

- Texas A&M International was whistled for 13 fouls, while the Jets committed just five. Newman's Hugo Rayo received the only card issued in the match, a yellow in the 46th minute.

With the loss, the Jets fall to 6-10-1 on the season, but remain in sole possession of second place in the Heartland Conference with a 3-3-1 record against conference opponents. Newman will conclude its 2011 season Sunday, traveling to San Antonio, Texas to take on the St. Mary's Rattlers. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
