WICHITA - The Newman baseball team swept the series against Oklahoma Panhandle State this weekend. The Jets' pitching and hitting led to 16-0 and 15-5 victories for the double-header that took place on Saturday at McCarthy Field. Newman finished with 15 hits in the first game and 19 in the second.

In the first game of Saturday's double-header the Jets wasted little time adding runs to the scoreboard. Newman's lead-off batter Jacob Gaul singled to left center, with Gaul on base and two outs the Jets rallied to score six runs. Ryan Engrav,

Mike Williams,
John Bonebrake each had a hit, while
Brett Delcambre had a three-run home run. It was a busy inning for the Newman Jets with the completion of six runs on six first-inning hits.
Newman rallied again in the second-inning with a
Scot Palmer homerun, finishing the inning with one run and two hits.
The Jets added three more runs off of three runs with an Aggie error in the fourth inning, all while Newman starter
Kyle Burkhardt pitched a no-hitter through the first four frames. Gaul started the inning with a double, then scored on a David Longmore triple. Corey Cowan followed with a double, and advanced on a fielding error. Palmer had the final hit in the inning.
Bonebrake reached base on a walk to start the fifth-inning while Longmore was hit by a pitch. A three-run home run from Cowan gave the Jets their only hit in the bottom of the fifth making the score 13-0.
The sixth-inning brought another three runs and two hits from Robulack and Bonebrake, respectively. The Jet's ended the seven-inning game on a high note, 16-0.
Kyle Burkhardt earned the win in the contest pitching six scoreless innings, and allowing just one Aggie hit.
Newman 15, Oklahoma Panhandle State 5
The second game started off slow for the Jets. OPSU scored two runs in the top of the first after hits from Jamie Bahr, Andy Klaus, and Ryan Muldoon. Newman answered with four hits from Gaul, Longmore, Cowan, Palmer producing three runs. At the end of the first-inning Newman had taken a 3-2.
It was quiet until the fourth-inning when Bonebrake reached base on a fielding error, stole second, then scored when Gaul tripled.
In the fifth-inning OPSU's Bahr scored on Brandon Barnes' single to left field. Newman followed with three hits and one run resulting in a 5-3 score that favored the hosts.
The Aggies tied the game in the sixth-inning 5-5 with a run from Dillon Doucette.
Newman regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out rally. Engrav doubled then reached third base on a throwing error when
Mike Williams was at the plate. Later, a single from Delcambre and Robulack led both Engrave and Williams to score.
The Jets made their final statement in the eighth inning. Newman posted five hits and took advantage of three Aggie errors to plate eight runs, and brought the 10-run rule into play with the 15-5 win.
Eric Hansen was credited the win allowing only one hit in 1.2 innings pitched.
The sweep improves pushes the Jets to 3-7 on the season, and 3-6 in Heartland Conference play. Newman will return to action Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. hosting the Emporia State Hornets at McCarthy Field.
