LAREDO, Texas - The Newman baseball team took a 1-0 and 3-1 loss to Texas A&M International Friday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field in Laredo, Texas on Friday.
Kyle Burkhardt gave up only one run and three hits for Newman during the six innings he pitched in the first game.

Newman (3-10, 3-8 Heartland) lost the first game of the day, dropping a 1-0 decision to Texas A&M International (8-4, 8-3 Heartland).
Kyle Burkhardt pitched the six innings for Newman allowing only three hits and one run. Newman's four hits were not enough to gain run support for Burkhardt in the loss.
Dustdevil pitcher Mike McGillivray took the win.

Newman answered in the second game with a run, but could not overcome eight Dustdevil hits, losing 3-1. The Jets' only run came in the top of the second.
Scot Palmer led off the inning with a double to right center. Corey Cowan then reached first on a fielder's choice as Palmer advanced to third. Palmer went on to score on a
Thomas Robulack groundout.
The loss went to Brandon Droge while TAMIU.'s John Gonzalez earned the win.
Scot Palmer led the Jets at the plate for the day, finishing four-for-seven.
The doubleheader losses drop Newman to a 3-10 overall record and 3-8 Heartand Conference record. Newman returns Saturday to finish the series against the Dustdevils at Laredo, Texas.
