LAWTON, Okla. – The Newman baseball team went 1-2 last weekend against Cameron at McCord Field in Lawton, Okla. The Jets won Friday's game 11-7, and lost Saturday's games 2-1 and 11-7.
Newman 11, Cameron 7
In the second inning of the Friday game against Cameron (12-4), Newman (7-14) scored one run to lead the game 1-0. The inning started with
Scot Palmer reaching base on a walk from Cameron starter Corey Davidson. Palmer advanced to second on a
Brett Delcambre single, then both runners advanced on a sacrifice ground out from Jordan Ollenberger. With one out, Palmer was able to reach home on a Jacob Gaul sacrifice fly to left field.
David Longmore began the third inning with a single and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. The Jets advanced Longmore to third from a
Mike Williams single, and then brought Longmore home on a Ryan Engrav single.
The Aggies tied the score in the bottom of the third, 2-2 off of three hits. In the fourth, Cameron stole the lead with one run.
Newman scored two runs in the fifth taking the lead, 4-3. Corey Cowan reached on an error and advanced to second. Williams singled up the middle advancing Cowan to third. A Palmer groundout brought Cowan home, and a Delcambre single scored Williams.
Cameron's Nate Valdez homered in the fifth to tie the score, 4-4.
The Jets regained the lead in the seventh off five runs, three hits, and three errors. An error by the Aggies allowed Cowan to reach first, and a walk allowed Engrav to reach base. Palmer doubled through the left side advancing Cowan home and Engrav to third. A double from Delcambre scored both Engrav and Palmer. Ollenberger reached second on an Aggie error allowing Delcambre to score. A
John Bonebrake single brought Ollenberger in for the final run of the inning.
Cameron added two more runs in the seventh, and cut the Jets' lead to 9-6.
Williams and Engrav singled, while an error allowed Palmer to reach base and Williams to score. Engrav scored on a Delcambre groundout giving Newman a big enough lead to take the 11-7 win.

Cameron 2, Newman 1
The first game of Saturday's doubleheader resulted in a loss for the Jets. Newman's only run came in the fourth inning, Cowan walked, stole second and reached home on a Palmer double.
A run in the bottom of the sixth tied the game, but a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth from Kenny Held gave the Aggies the deciding run, and gave them the 2-1 win.
Brandon Droge pitched eight innings for the Jets, allowing only three hits and two runs.
Cameron 12, Newman 6
Bonebrake and Williams reached base on Jerry A'Hearn walks in the first inning of the second game on Saturday. A Palmer single to left field brought Bonebrake in for a Newman run, while an Engrav single brought Williams in for the Jets' two runs.
The Aggies scored three runs in the first with help from a three-run Held homerun to take the lead, 3-2.
Four runs in the second gave Newman the lead, 6-3.
Thomas Robulack reached base on a walk, while Ollenberger and Bonebrake were hit by pitches loading the bases for the Jets. Longmore cashed in on the runners on base, hitting a grand slam to score four runs for the Jets.
That would not be enough for Newman. The Aggies scored one run in the second, six in the fourth, and two in the fifth to win the seven inning game, 12-6.
David Longmore finished the second game hitting three-of-three.
With the 1-2 series loss, the Jets move to a 7-14 overall record and 5-10 in Heartland play. Newman will return to action March 18 at McCarthy Field for a weekend series against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
