WICHITA - The Newman men's soccer team kicks off its 27th season Thursday, Sept 1 against NAIA foe Bethel. The game will be played at Wilkins Field and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Newman returns 15 players from the 2010 team, including sophomore midfielder
Jordan Saybounkham who earned Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year honors in his first season with the Jets. Saybounkham was one of the five players that accounted for 12 of Newman's 18 goals scored during the 2010 campaign. He will be joined by 12 newcomers, six of which bring successful junior college careers to Newman.
The Bethel Threshers bring a 1-0 record into Thursdays game after a 4-0 victory over Central Methodist on Aug 28.
The 2011 squad will attempt to win its first season opener since the 1996 season which ended in a trip to the NAIA National Tournament. The Jets are 11-0 all-time against Bethel.
