Jets End Two-Game Winning Streak at St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas - The Newman men's soccer team traveled to play conference opponent St. Edward's on Thursday afternoon. The Jets fell short to the Hilltoppers losing 2-0.

It took 20 minutes for the first shot of the game to be taken; Newman's Robin Allard saved a header taken by St. Edward's Andrew Fox. The Hilltoppers continued with two more shots within two minutes. Newman had its first chance a goal in the 24th minute from Brandon Carlos, but St. Edward's defense blocked it. After Newman committed a foul 25 yards away from the goal, St. Edward's Anderson McDaniel shot the free kick over the defensive wall to earn the first goal of the game. At the end of the first half the Jets were losing 1-0.

The Hilltopper shots came quickly at the beginning of the second half. A missed header in the 49th minute was followed by a 52th minute-mark header that turned into St. Edward's second goal. Newman senior Jason Dewey took the role of goalkeeper in the 55th minute. The Jets attempted with a Brandon Carlos shot in the 64th minute, but it ended wide right. Another attempt for a Newman goal came in the 84th minute from Marcio Souza; St. Edward's earned the save. At the end of regulation St. Edward's won 2-0.

Newman had three shots with two saves from Robin Allard and one save from Dewey.

The Jets are now 3-7-1 with a conference record of 2-3-1. Newman will continue play on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2:30 p.m. against Dallas Baptist.
