Fiery Contest as Jets take on Dust devils

WICHITA – Newman University's Jets took on the Dust devils of Texas A&M International University today as the fiery contest produced 8 yellow cards and one red card. The Jets came out the stronger side in the first half as the men outshout the Dust devils with 9 shots to 4. The second half was to produce a different outcome though as the Jets conceded 2 goals and had defender John Senseman sent off after 74 minutes.

The first goal for the Dust devils came from a well-worked free kick as Juan Ramirez found Joan Vallejo who played the ball into the box finding teammate Diego Manzano-Cano. Manzano-Cano scored both goals for the Dust devils as the forward scored his second goal on a breakaway after the Jets went a player down.

“The referee didn't have the best game today. I thought some of the decisions he made were debatable but it was a difficult game for any referee. I also felt that the boys came out strong but we were unable to maintain the intensity we started with.” Travis Mitchell, Newman Forward.

Newman next host St. Mary's on Saturday Oct. 20 at Wilkins Field. The game will start at 2:30 pm.
