WICHITA - Newman Universities lady Jets were off to a good start again this weekend as the team took on St. Mary's Rattlers in a double time showdown.
The lady Jets outshot the Rattlers in the first half but were unable to produce that finishing touch that the team have found themselves searching for. Passing the ball around and keeping it from the Rattlers the Jets held a lot of possession.
The second half unfolded in a much more even contest as the Rattlers outshot the Jets 9 to 5 but only forced 3 saves from goalkeeper
Kayleigh Renfro.
As both sides battled out the first period of overtime neither side were able to break the deadlock and claim the points. The game looked as though it was going to end up a tie.
Moments later
Mei-Mei Senthavy broke away down the right hand side of the field and the Jets had a 2 vs. 1 attack on a lone defender for the Rattlers. The ball was then played into the middle where it found
Mallory Hurst offside. With only 4 minutes left in the game the Jets would have been wondering if they had just missed the big opportunity to seize the points.
With three minutes remaining St. Mary's player Katie Kasperitis passed the ball into the box only to find unmarked teammate Leah Snelson who would claim the win for the Rattlers, and also claim her first goal this season.
The Jets next play Oklahoma Christian on Oct. 23 in Edmond, Okla. The game will begin at 7.30 PM
