Goodwell, Okla. – It was a stellar night for the Newman volleyball team as it took its first Heartland Conference match sweep against Oklahoma Panhandle State, 3-0. In the three sets the Jets averaged a attack percentage of .267 while holding its opponent to a .094 percentage.
 
The Jets started the night off with an eight-point run due to senior Katelyn Schmidtberger's three attacks, an attack from junior Hannah Melichar and four straight attacking errors by the Aggies. Later, Newman went on another seven-point rally. Junior Gabby Loxterman dished out six assists to lead the Jets to a 25-14 victory.
 
In the second set, the Aggies didn't make it as easy for the Jets to earn the 25-20 win. Newman outperformed Okla. Panhandle State by three kills. Both Schmidtberger and senior Haley Dotson tallied four kills through Loxterman's 11 assists.  
 
Newman took the momentum from the previous two wins and completed the match with a final score of 25-14, in the third set. Another five kills from Schmidtberger gave the Jets an advantage in the final set of the night, ending the match with 13 total kills. Loxterman finished the night with 24 assists.
 
The record for Newman improves to 2-5 and 1-1 in Heartland Conference play. The Jets host Southwestern College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15.
