WICHITA - Newman volleyball took Southwestern College to three sets on Saturday beating them 25-18, 25-15 and 25-18. Seniors
Haley Dotson and
Katelyn Schmidtberger led the Jets with 12 kills a piece.
Junior
Gabby Loxterman dished out 11 assists helping Newman record the most kills of the match in set one with 15. Dotson had over half of those kills with eight. Newman held the Moundbuilders to five kills with 28 total attempts and three errors limiting Southwestern to a .071 attack percentage. The Jets won the first set 25-18.
Newman did not give any leeway to Southwestern in the second set winning 25-15. This set Schmidtberger led the Jets in kills, five. Loxterman recorded two consecutive kills, one coming right after a Moundbuilder timeout.
The Jets had four kills from both Schmidtberger and junior
Hannah Melichar in the third set. Loxterman had 10 assists compiling a total of 28 for the match.
Tori Alderson concluded the match with an ace ending the set 25-18.
Freshman
Samantha Minihan led the team with three block assists while Alderson had 11 digs.
Newman volleyball moves to a 3-5 overall record and 1-1 record in Heartland Conference play. Dallas Baptist will host the Jets Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
