Souza's Last Minute Goal Pushes Jets to Victory

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - the Jets took on St. Mary's Rattlers yesterday as the team looked to gain its first win of the season. After the teams opening game in the Heartland Conference last Thursday, against Texas A&M International, Coach Cliff Brown's team looked to do more.

Coach Brown commented, stating; "The game against Texas A&M was not how we wanted to start the season. We changed a few things at half time and we felt that we started playing better once we had made those changes."

The Jets, after much deliberation amongst the team, look to have found it's cohesive click yesterday as they beat the Rattlers 2-1.

Following the game Coach Brown had this to say about his team; "The boys were tremendous. We knew we were taking a few risks playing with only three players at the back but the boys came together with the attitude we have been waiting to see. They were a completely different team Saturday, their attitude was positive they played with passion, and played like they knew they would win."

The first goal for the Jets came as Matt McConnell pressured the goal keeper forcing an error which led to a composed finished by senior, Brandon Carlos. The Jets battled on as McConnell and Sebastien Negro continued to pressure the Rattlers defense.

Coach Brown commented, 'Matheus Daniel was excellent for us at the back; he and Negro up top won every head ball. It was a matter of time before a goal came and that is exactly what happened when we put Marcio Souza back into the game."

The Jets led 1-0 from the 19 minute mark until the 80th minute when St. Mary's scored its first goal. With a 1-1 tie, the Jets energy fueld Souza to kick the game winning goal with two minutes and 10 seconds left leading to the 2-1 victory.

Souza has now scored twice for the Jets in three games.

The Jets take on St. Edwards University on Sept. 27, 2.30 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
