Jets Fall Short at Wilkins Field

WICHITA - The Jets hosted St. Edwards on Thursday evening as a tame game had spectators witness only five shots on goal during the matchup. Newman loss to the Hilltoppers 1-0.

Jets goal keeper Robin Allard found himself with little to do throughout the game as he made only three saves throughout the game. Equally unchallenged, goalkeeper John Kaschak only had one save to make throughout the game. Although, Nathan Modesto came the closest to scoring for the Jets on 41 minutes as his free kick effort went just over the crossbar.

The five shots on goal in 90 minutes illustrated the deadlock between the two teams, as it took all of 59 minutes for a goal to be made. The only goal of the game was scored by St. Ed's Kyle Pujats as a free kick from the left was whipped into the goal box by Andrew Fox.

Coach Cliff Brown commented, "I felt we had a lot more possession in the second half than St. Ed's. We just aren't quite dangerous around the box yet, but hopefully that will come." Brown, having changed the formations and various player roles also stated; "I felt that Matheus played well again today. He has been playing very well since we dropped him back into defense and it shows us that's where he belongs. We aren't anywhere near where we want to be as a team yet, but other individuals also played very well. Nathan (Modesto) probably played as well as I have ever seen him play today, and Sam (Travis) was solid for us again."

The Jets will take on Dallas Baptist University on Sept. 29 at Wilkins Field.
