Jets Go Down Fighting in Double Overtime

WICHITA - After a 30 minute lightning delay Friday afternoon, Newman and Midwestern State men's soccer battled it out at Wilkins Field. The windy conditions and junior, goalkeeper Robin Allard's 15 saves were not enough to hold the Mustangs to a 1-0 victory with 32 seconds left in the second overtime.

The Jets came out strong in the opening minutes however it was the visitors who looked to threaten the goal first.

Robin Allard put in a solid performance for the Jets as he looked to earn his team a shut out by making 15 good saves, two of which came just 4 minutes into the second half which was then followed up with a volley from Bryan Santiago that went just over the cross bar.

The effort by the Jets defense was on display as every player worked quickly to close down and block threatening shots from the offensive Mustangs.

With minutes closing, freshman John Senseman blocked a dangerous effort before seeing goalkeeper Allard make additional saves to send the two teams into overtime.

As the game progressed, fiery performances from both teams forced referee Riley Young to brandish five yellow cards to keep the peace, before awarding the sixth and final card in overtime.

With 32 seconds remaining on the clock in double overtime, the Mustangs managed to find the back of the net with a goal from B.A. Catney.

After the loss, Newman holds a 0-3 record. The Jets are next to host Oklahoma Christian at Wilkins Field on Saturday, September 15 at 7p.m.
