Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – An early 1-0 advantage couldn't hold as the Newman men's soccer team allowed three goals in the last 20 minutes to fall to Friends University, 3-1, on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at Adair Austin Stadium.
The Jets struck first in the contest, scoring in the eighth minute.
Marcio Souza scored his first goal of the season to put NU up 1-0.
NU held the 1-0 advantage for most of the game until a hand ball in the box gave Friends a penalty kick. The Falcons scored to tie the game up at 1-1 in the 71st minute.
FU scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute on a shot from towards the top of the box. The Falcons added one more tally with 10 seconds remaining to get the 3-1 win.
The Falcons held a 17-5 edge in shots for the game with nine shots on target. Four of the five NU shots were on goal.
Steven Hamersky started in goal for the Jets, going the full 90 minutes and making seven saves, while allowing the three goals.
The Jets start their Heartland Conference schedule on Saturday (Oct. 5) at St. Mary's at 5 p.m.
