Box Score WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team won its seventh straight match with a 3-1 victory over Cameron on Tuesday (Oct. 15) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Lady Jets improved to 11-6 on the season.
With set one tied at 6-6, NU went on a 10-2 run to pull out to a 16-8 lead, forcing CU to take a time out. With the score 22-18, the Lady Jets scored the last three points, including a set-point kill by
Jarin Braithwait, to win set one 25-18.
In the second set, the Lady Jets battled back from a late deficit to win 25-23. NU trailed 21-18, but ended the set on a 7-2 run to get the win. Down 22-21, NU got three straight kills with two coming from Braithwait. After a CU kill, Braithwait put the Aggies away with another kill and a 25-23 score.
The third set was close throughout. With the score tied at 23-23, a CU service error gave NU match point, but the Aggies got a kill for a 24-24 tie. At 25-25, CU got back-to-back kills from Kelle Carver to win 27-25.
Already up 10-9 in the fourth set, NU went on 10-5 run to open up a 20-14 advantage and force the Aggies into a time out. With the Lady Jets up 22-17,
Gaylynn Jones put the match away with three kills for a 25-18 set win.
Jones totaled a double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 11 digs.
Jeana Farruggia added 12 kills, and Braithwait had 11 kills, hitting .381.
Alexus Litts finished with a match-high 36 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
Tori Alderson and
Tori Provencio each had a match-high 12 digs.
The Lady Jets return to Heartland Conference action on Thursday (Oct. 17) against Arkansas-Forth Smith at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
