Box Score WICHITA – The Newman volleyball team increased its win streak to four straight matches with a 3-1 victory over Southwestern College on Monday (Oct. 7) at Fugate Gymnasium. NU improved to 8-6 on the season.
 
After dropping the first set, the Lady Jets responded to win the next three sets and take the match, 3-1.
 
NU didn't get off to a great start, hitting -.029 in the opening set. Southwestern College hit .276 and pulled out to a 25-18 win.
 
The Lady Jets cruised to wins in set two and three. NU won 25-7 in the second set, hitting .478 with only one error. In the third set, the Lady Jets hit .429 and once again only had one error.
 
In the fourth set, NU pushed the set to match point at 24-12, but the Moundbuilders went on an 8-0 run for a 24-20 score. Jarin Braithwait closed out the match with a kill and a 25-20 set four victory.
 
Ashley Gonzalez tallied a match-high 10 kills. Shelby Zoglman added nine kills and hit .643. Lexi Kuharich totaled 43 assists, a match high. Tori Alderson dug up a match-high 18 balls.
 
The Lady Jets end their four match home stretch on Thursday (Oct. 10) with a non-conference match against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
