Box Score ALVA, Okla. - After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, Newman's offense couldn't get going and overcome the early defecit as the Jets lost 7-0 against Northwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon.
After sending the Jets down in order in the top of the first, the Rangers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning thanks to three hit batsmen. With one swing of the bat, the Rangers' designated hitter sent the ball sailing over the left field fence for a grand slam, and just like that the Jets trailed 4-0 after one.
The Jets attempted to get a rally going in the top of the third inning, with
John Branum drawing a leadoff walk and
Dylan Monroe reaching base on an error by the pitcher to put runners at first and second with nobody out.
TJ Shedrick laced a sure double down the right field line, only to have the first baseman leap to snare the ball and double Monroe off first, stopping the Jets' momentum.
The Rangers were back at it in the bottom of the inning, stringing four hits and a walk together to plate two more runs, extending their lead to 6-0 after three innings. The Rangers would add another run in the sixth inning to stretch the score to the 7-0 final. Newman just couldn't seem to catch a break on the day, lining into another rally-killing double play in the fifth inning. Luck was not on the side of the Newman offense, as the Jets totaled just three hits in the loss.
With the loss, the Jets fall to 4-6 on the season (4-5 Heartland). The Jets will look to get back in the win column this weekend, when they travel down to Laredo, Tex. for a Heartland Conference weekend series with Texas A&M International.
