WICHITA – After starting the 2013 season with two road games, the Newman men's soccer team starts its home schedule with Metro State on Sunday (Sept. 15) against Metro State at 2 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats will be available for the non-conference game.
The Jets started their season with two away contests against No. 6 Rockhurst and William Jewell. In the season opener at RU, the Jets fell 5-0, and NU lost a close game, 3-2, at WJC. Freshmen
Adam Sawyer and
Noel Torres each scored goals for the Jets and
Victor Rojas had one assist. In goal,
Steven Hamersky and
Robin Allard have split time with each getting one start. Hamersky has made 10 saves and has a 3.33 goals against average in 135 minutes, and Allard has seven saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes.
Metro State is 1-0-1 this season with a 2-1 overtime win over Western Washington and a 1-1 tie against California Baptist. Andy Lopez, Carlos Mendez and Pierce Galan have the three Roadrunner goals this season and Galan also has one assist.
The game is the first of two-straight home contests for NU as the Jets welcome Oklahoma Christian to Wilkins Field on Sept. 20 for a 7:30 p.m. game.
