WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Newman men's soccer team travels to Midwestern State today (Sept. 27) for a 4 p.m. match at the MSU Soccer Field. The Jets, who are 0-5-1, are searching for their first win of the season.
So far this week, NU is 0-1 after playing Southwestern Christian on Wednesday (Sept. 25) at Wilkins Field. The Eagles scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick with about 3 minutes left in the second half.
Luca Anelli scored his first career goal for NU, knocking in a header off a corner kick from
Jordan Saybounkham. The goal tied the score at 1-1.
Adam Sawyer leads the Jets with two goals this season and
Noel Torres and
Luca Anelli both add one goal each.
Midwestern is 2-3 this season with wins over Colorado State-Pueblo, 4-1, and Rogers State, 2-0. The Mustangs dropped games to No. 19 Colorado Mines, St. Edward's and Fort Lewis. Len Smith has a team-high three goals this season and adds one assist. Five other Mustangs have goals. Chase Robertson leads MSU with three assists.
After today's game, NU plays its final non-conference game at Friends University on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at 8:30 p.m.
