Box Score WICHITA – Playing in their season and home opener, the Newman women's soccer team got off to a fast start with three goals in the first half and cruised to a 4-0 win over Southwestern College on Thursday (Sept. 5) at Wilkins Field. NU moved to 1-0 while SC dropped to 1-1 on the season.
NU scored quickly with two tallies in the first 11 minutes.
Harriet Jakeman started the scoring in the ninth minute, knocking home a ball in front after a corner kick.
Olivia Hull picked up the assist. The Lady Jets doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 11th minute on
Mei-Mei Senthavy's first of two goals of the game.
Jeehye Yi had the assist. The first half scoring ended when
Courtney Galliher headed in a
Channing Kelley cross for a 3-0 score in the 35th minute.
Senthavy added the final goal and the only score of the second half in the 86th minute.
Haley Borchers and
Kayleigh Renfro combined for the shutout in goal. Borchers started the first half and made one save, and Renfro played the second half and made four saves.
The Lady Jets held a 12-3 shot advantage in the first half and finished with 17 shots compared to 11 from SC.
NU is back in action on Sept. 12 in a non-conference game against Oklahoma Christian. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
