KEARNEY, Neb. – The Newman wrestling team went 0-4 at the Second Annual Midwest Dual on Saturday (Jan. 18), hosted by Nebraska-Kearney. The Jets lost 37-6 to Southwest Minnesota State, 33-6 to Northern State, 35-13 to Minot State and 40-6 to Chadron State.
 
SW Minnesota State 37, Newman 6
 
Against SW Minnesota State, NU got two decision wins. Colton Duhr won a 6-1 decision over Codie Lane at 157 lb., and Juan Ortiz won 8-2 over Billy Dean at 174 lbs.
 
SW Minnesota State won the first four weight classes, including two wins by pin to go up 19-3. SMSU also won the final three weight classes by two decisions and one pin.
 
Northern State 33, Newman 6
 
The Jets once again won two weight classes, again by two decisions. After a close 6-4 decision loss at 125 lbs., NU tied the score at 3-3 with a 3-2 decision win by Kris Workman at 133 lbs.
 
Northern State went on to win the next seven weight classes to go up 33-3. Lorenzo Serna won a 10-3 decision at 285 lb. over Tony Reurink for the second NU victory.
 
Minot State 35, Newman 13
 
Against Minot State, NU won three weight classes. The Jets started the match with a forfeit win by Dustin Reed at 125 lb. to put NU up 6-0.
 
Minot State went up 16-6 with three straight wins, including two pins.
 
Colton Duhr won in the 157 lb. class with a 10-4 decision. After four MSU wins, Serna picked up a major decision win, 11-1 over Bobby Bartz in the 285 lb. class.

Chadron State 40, Newman 6
 
The Jets picked up two more wins in the 40-6 loss to Chadron State. After getting behind 19-0, Duhr won a close 2-1 decision over C.J. Clark. The second Jet win was by Serna, who got a 2-0 decision victory over Rulon Taylor. Serna finished 3-1 on the day. Duhr also went 3-1.
 
The Jets are next in action on Jan. 25 at the Kansas Cup at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan.
