WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Newman wrestling team went 0-2 at the Central Missouri Duals on Sunday (Jan. 5) at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
In its first dual of the day, NU lost 32-12 to Ouachita Baptist.
Noel Torres won via a 9-3 decision against Andrew Martin at 165 lb. In the 174 lb. match,
Juan Ortiz got a 3-1 sudden victory over Elyjah Crumpler.
Lorenzo Serna pinned Nathan Jackson at 4:26 in the 285 lb. class match for the 32-12 score.
The Jets fell to Mary, 27-22, in their second dual. Each team won five of the 10 matches, but Mary used four pins to score more points.
Dustin Reed started with a pin at 3:59 over Hunter Menendez to put NU up 6-0.
Kris Workman won a 6-2 decision to make it 9-6 in favor of the Jets. UM used back-to-back pins to go up 12-9.
Colton Duhr put the Jets back in front with a 10-0 major decision win to make it 13-12. UM once again scored back-to-back wins by pin to take a 24-13 advantage. A decision win by UM put them ahead 27-13.
NU won the final two matches.
Steven Cooksley won by fall at 1:48 against Tom Devito. Serna picked up a 3-0 decision win over Jonah Westbury for the 27-22 final score. Serna went 2-0 on the day.
The Jets are next in action on Wednesday (Jan. 8) as they host Truman in their first MIAA dual. The dual starts at 7 p.m. inside Fugate Gymnasium.
