AUSTIN, Texas – The Newman men's soccer team travels to St. Edward's to play the Hilltoppers at 2:30 p.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field. The Jets will look to give SEU its first conference loss of the season.
The Hilltoppers are currently 7-2-1 and 2-0 on the season. SEU is on a seven-match unbeaten streak, going back to Sept. 13. In their conference season, the Hilltoppers have defeated Dallas Baptist, 3-0, and Oklahoma Christian, 2-1, both on the road. Andrew Fox leads the offense with seven goals and four assists. Fox has three match-winning goals in the seven SEU wins. Pablo Covarrubias adds three goals. In goal, Kevin Leib has appeared in all 10 matches, making nine starts. He has a 0.69 goals against average and a .857 save percentage. Lieb has four shutouts.
The Jets are 7-3-1 and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference after a 2-1 double overtime win over St. Mary's on Monday (Oct. 6).
Luca Anelli scored the match-winning goal after slicing through the Rattler defense.
Kerbson Lubin leads NU with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. He scored the first goal against StMU on a back-heel shot. Anelli and
Vitor Okamoto add five goals each.
Steven Hamersky has a 0.98 goals against average in seven appearances. His record is 4-1-1.
NU has averaged 3.00 goals per game and has 33 goals on the season. The defense has allowed 1.36 goals per game with four shutouts.
