VICTORIA, Kan. – Sophomore
Jacob Wallace and senior
Rubi Torres both set school records at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Saturday (Oct. 18) at Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, Kan. The Jets placed 10th overall and the Lady Jets were 13th in a loaded field.
Jacob Wallace ran a time of 25:19 in the 8k men's race. He finished 70th overall out of 201 runners. Four Jets ran times under 25:46, the first time that's ever happened. Freshman
Tristyn Villa ran a 25:39 to finish second for NU.
Joey Kenneson and
Nick Martin finished 1 second apart with a 25:46 for Kenneson and a 25:46 for Martin.
Kenton Weber finished with a time of 26:09, and Kenneth Kimani ran a 26:13.
Kyle Spotts timed a 26:38 in the race, and Zach Hamrick finished in 26:42.
Martin Calderon finished in 27:23, and
Mark Sutton ran a 27:45.
Colorado Mines won the team men's title, and fellow RMAC member Western State placed second. Nebraska-Kearney was third, and Adams State was fourth. The field was 17 NCAA Division II teams.
Senior
Rubi Torres set the school record in the women's 5k race, going under 18 minutes with a time of 17:59. She placed 14th overall.
Finishing back-to-back in 97th and 98th were
Emily Terrell and
McKayla Crawford. Terell timed a 19:51, and Crawford finished 3 seconds behind in 19:54. Jenny Borughs ran a 20:08, and
Levin Melly finished a few seconds behind in 20:13. Kendra Cruse timed a 21:09.
The RMAC dominated the team standings with Adams State first, Western State second,UC-Colorado Springs third and Colorado Mines fourth. Host FSHU finished fifth. The field included 17 NCAA Division II teams.
