WICHITA – The Newman men's soccer team looks to win its third straight on Saturday (Oct. 25) against rival Oklahoma Christian at 7:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field. Live stats will be available for the contest.
The Jets are currently 9-4-1 and 3-2 in the Heartland Conference. In their most recent contests, the Jets defeated UTPB, 3-2, and LCU, 1-0. Senior goalkeeper
Steven Hamersky was named the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday after leading the Jets to a shutout win over LCU. The offense is led by
Kerbson Lubin, who has seven goals and three assists, and
Luca Anelli adds six goals and one assist.
Taylor Henry has a team-high four assists.
NU was ranked in the South Central Region this week for the fourth time this season. The Jets were No. 9 in the poll. They were No. 8 in the previous week.
The Eagles are 2-7-1 and 1-3 in the Heartland Conference. OC defeated Dallas Baptist on Oct. 13 for its only conference win this season. The Eagles other win is a 3-0 victory against Ouachita Baptist on Sept. 12. Ante Susic has four of the 11 goals for OC this season. Troy Tippeconnic leads OC with three assists. Evan Helker has started all 10 matches in goal. He has a 2.05 goals against average with 53 saves and a .716 save percentage.
The Jets end the regular season with three straight home matches. After Saturday, NU takes on Dallas Baptist on Monday (Oct. 27) at 2:30 p.m. Senior Day is Nov. 1 against Rogers State at 7:30 p.m.
